The Horizon is a non-profit online radio station. Instead of specialising in a specific genre such as Dance, Drum 'n' Bass or Dubstep, The Horizon focuses on upcoming chart topping releases. Of course, we do have specific Dance shows available at weekends but our speciality is to the latest music.
Our full blurb can be found on the 'About The Horizon' page.
-
How did you come up with the name?
You know the saying... forth coming items on the agenda are said to be 'on the horizon'!
Based on our principle & mission to bring the upcoming chart releases and our proximity to the Irish Sea (We're right on the West Coast of England), we chose our name to best suit of purpose!
-
Requests are always welcome. At present, just send us a message on the Contact Us page.
In the future we would like to add a Shout Box and automated request system to the website, so keep an eye on the top NavBar to see how we can simplify the process.

Who is the guy that's DJ'ing on friday and saturday nights
Friday and Saturday evenings are hosted by founder and director, DJ Knight.
DJ Knight can be found and followed on Twitter. (@TheDJKnight)

My favourite artist' single was (finally) out this week... Yet I don't hear it on The Horizon! How come?
The Horizon is aiming to look ahead at future releases to bring you new music! As a result, we may have already played this week's new singles over the past month and now we're pushing things forward!
-
Can I download previous shows/podcasts?
Unfortunately, we are not allowed to provide previous shows or podcasts. Our licensing won't cover for it!
-
DJ'ing is a great way to connect with people and is fantastic for keeping up with the latest music out there... However, it does take commitment and dedication; oh and you can't be shy on the microphne!!
So you think you got what it takes? Well The Horizon is alwys happy to welcome new DJ's! But first, we must ask you about what previous experience you have of DJ'ing and of Radio Presentation. Because of the way that The Horizon operates, we have to adhere to a strict code of conduct and this will be set out to you before you join us. If you're still intersested then please Contact Us!
-
A DJ/Presenter has said/done/broadcasted something offensive! Who can I talk to?
Offencive content is a serious breach of the Terms & Conditions to which a DJ/presenter has agreed to. This then, must be investiaged. Please Contact Us with a time and date of what was said/done and we will investiage it thuroughly. We will then consider what appropriate (if any) action should be take.

Here we have a few suggestions:

IMPORTANT: If you're listening in the car, keep the music a reasonable level. Make sure you can still hear what's going on around you.

My player says that the file format is not recognised when I click the 'Listen Live' link or button... what's going on?
When clicking either our Listen Live link in the NavBar or the 'Listen Live' button at the bottom of each web page, your computer will download a .pls file. This is a widely recognised format suitable for players such as Winamp or iTunes.
Check to make sure that your player can accept '.pls' files and then try clicking the link again. For Windows Media Player users, there is a WMP link on the Home page.

My internet connection is OK, but the music quality is so bad.
It is possible that our servers are suffering from a bad connection. In this case, quality may dip below standard. Our aim is to provide you with 128kbps (or CD Quality) streams but sometimes things just go wrong. Don't worry, we WILL fix it!

-
If I click a Listen Live link, I get 'The Page Cannot Be Displayed' or 'No Data Received'. What's happening?
If such messages appear, it could be one of two things.
- The server has failed due to a technical fault
- The Horizon has shut down the service temporarily for maintenance
Please accept our apologies for this interuption to the service. Scheduled maintance will only take place at night (UK time) and any daytime disruption is may due to fault beyond the control of The Horizon or it's partners.

How much does it cost to advertise on The Horizon?
Details of how much it costs to advertise on The Horizon can be found here.
-
Do you know of any good jingle makers?
Companies who make the jingles that you and I hear over the radio are called Audio Production or Radio Imagery companies. An exceellent suggestion of ours would be RPC Audio. Whichever company you purchase from, you must show your Buy Out receipt.
-
Can I switch my ad part way through my pre paid AdSlot period?
Yes - to keep it fresh is always a good idea. However, as highlighted in the Terms and Conditions, a new advert must be pre listened and 'inspected' before being allowed to air. It must (obviously) be related to the same company/business. Just contact us if you would like to re-submit your ad!
-
My company/business has had to change names... do I have to renew my AdSlot on The Horizon?
No, but you must provide evidence that you are not transfering your slot to another company. Just contact us to explain the situation and we will get back to you
PLEASE NOTE: These slots are non transferable and not for resale. Failure to provide such evidence to the contrary may result in termination of your ad slot.
-
I find an advertisement offensive, what can I do?
It is part of the Terms and Conditions that advertisements should not be offensive in any way to anyone... and businesses don't want to upset the customer! However, we acknowledge that this can be such a grey area. Ads are 'inspected' prior to airing to try and avoid any inappropriate material. However, if you feel offended then please Contact Us so we can investgate.
Known Issues

What are the Known Issues with The Horizon website
We appologise for any technical failures. We are constantly working to improve the website and fix any bugs. Here are some known issues that have cropped up and seem to be with us for the long term!!
Title Not Displaying Properly
The title "The Horizon | Fresh Music 24/7" doesn't appear in the central allignment at the top of every page. This problem has been rectified and 'appears' to be working normally; however, it is possible that this fault may reoccur.
Fix Date: 14/12/12
Server Information & Track Log features are out of date/not working.
This feature has now been removed. A technical issue with our encoder was causing the Track Info widget on our webpage to permanently display "Merry Christmas Everyone" by Shaking Stevens! Despite our best efforts, the encoder was not updating the latest information - even when we entered it manually!
Fix Date: 6/12/12
Mobile Service availability is Intermitent.
This is a known issue which is not a fault on the part of The Horizon. Fixing it is not down to us.
Services Unavailable on Text Only Site
Some features on our main website may not work on the Text Only version. Some of the features are complicated HTML feeds which we can't add to our text only site (because we're a bit thick!)
Images Take Ages to Load!
The Images are pulled from a seperate serber and may take a little bit longer to load. This is part of the service from our hosting company.

What are the Known Issues with The Horizon radio service
As with our website issues, we are constantly looking for a fix with the known issues on our radio stream. Some of these will be repaired in the future wherever possible.
Stream stops just as a Live Show starts.
This is due to the functionality of our automation system. This problem has now been fixed thanks to a shift around. There will no longer be any need to reconnect at the start of any live shows.
Fix Date: 8/12/12
Audio Compression seems to vary
Our automation software has it's own compression system. The studio broadcasts rely on a much louder (and better) conpressor. Compressing audio helps prevent distortion and keeps all the sound on a similar level. Dropping compression was not an option. However, as sated aabove, we have reorganised our resources and fixed this and the above prolbem.
Fix Date: 8/12/12
Artist & Title is not appearing on screen
As stated under the 'Known Issues with The Horizon Website', our encoder has encountered a technical issue. It now no longer updates the current Artist/Track information. This feature (along with the website widget) is now turned off.
